Spinnaker Halyard take-up advice

I've got a question about spinnaker halyard line take-up methods. I remember seeing a post about this a while back, but I'm looking for specific advice on preventing the halyard from skying if the take-up device gets loose, any tips or setups that have worked well for you?

Yeah, using a halyard stopper ball or rigging a retrieval line through a block works well, and a properly tensioned Velcro strap or elastic take-up system helps keep it from skying if it slips.
