A buddy of mine is teaching sailing basics at a college club, and most of the students are just starting out. He's trying to find polar diagrams for a Club FJ or 420 to kick off some simple talks about VMG,nothing too complicated. Regular keelboat polars won't really work. Does anyone know where he could find some?

I used a basic 420 polar from a high school coaching guide, it is perfect for VMG talks. Try reaching out to collegiate sailing programs or check the US Sailing site for training resources.

Have you tried reaching out to the relevant customer support before anything? That helps a lot since all we could do is point you to the right direction in this forum but the solutions still lie in them.

Your buddy's right, keelboat polars wont translate well for dinghies like the FJ or 420. Unfortunately, detailed polar diagrams for those boats aren't commonly published , since they're more often used in basic training than performance tuning. That said, he might have some luck checking with class associations (like the CFJ or 420 class websites), US Sailing resources or reaching out to coaches at other college programs

Focusing on polar diagrams for small dinghies exposes a harsh truth: most sailing education overcomplicates beginner learning, prioritizing numbers over instinct, leaving novices dependent on charts instead of developing real feel and seamanship
