My wife and I were having smooth sailing just a few days back, and bam!

Looks like the wheels fell off, or in this case, the sleeve is out of whack, in the wrong spot, I reckon.

The instructions say that you can put a metal tube (max length 900 mm, supplied by the builder) inside the boom. Just make sure it doesn't stick out past the 1220 mm mark from the front of the boom (that measurement includes any plug at the front)

Has anyone else been in this kind of head scratcher of a problem?

If the metal tube provided is within the 900 mm limit and is properly seated but the sleeve is still off, it might need to be repositioned or simply removed and reinstalled. Double check the insertion depth and alignment, and also consider reaching out to the builder if its not lining up as expected. You're definitely no the first to encoutner this, I would tell you that..

Looks like the sleeve's out of place. Use a snug metal tube (max 900mm) inside the boom, not past 1220mm from the front. A backing plate or a slitted tube can help keep it aligned. Make sure nothing blocks the fittings. If unsure, ask a marine tech or local sailors.

Oh, that's just a real headache. You and your wife need another trip scheduled once this thing is fixed. Hurry up, man. Life is short. Go ahead and double-check that tube length and placement. Trust me, measuring twice saves a ton of grief.

This is a pain. Do backing plates or slitted tubes actually work long-term, or do they cause more issues later? Has anyone tried them?

Check the measurements carefully, sometimes the tube can slip a bit during assembly, maybe try marking the tube with tape at the exact length before inserting it, so you have a visual guide.
