There's a guy in my area selling his 2014 DragonForce 65 which seems to be in good shape and everything is working. Now, my first question is if there's something specific I need to check? The second question is how big of a body of water should I aim for?

Check condition of the rigging, look for frayed lines, cracked fittings, or brittle sails and then any hull damage, especially around the keel box and rudder post, then you'd need enough open space to maneuver and recover if it drifts out, but not something so big you need binoculars

Yes, and make sure the servos and radio gear respond smoothly. Also check for leaks by floating it in water for a few minutes.. As for sailing, a medium to large pond or small lake with open water and minimal weeds or obstructions is perfect, you'll want enough space to comfortably sail upwind and maneuver
